Versatile Waybacks Vol. 12 | Halloween 2025 👻🎃 Y2K BUG: DIGITAL AWAKENING 👾💀

by Jason Brain

👻🎃 Y2K BUG: DIGITAL AWAKENING 👾💀
Versatile Waybacks Vol. 12 | Halloween 2025

Turn your computer off before midnight on 31/12/99.

That sticker haunted every CRT in the late ’90s. A warning. A prophecy. A joke that wasn’t funny anymore when the clocks rolled over.

But tonight—Halloween 2025—we’re not waiting for the stroke of midnight. We’re summoning it.

Versatile Waybacks Vol. 12 is the mixtape you play in a dimly lit basement while the world outside braces for ghosts, ghouls, and glitching code. It’s New Year’s Eve 1999, but the calendar’s wrong. The jack-o’-lanterns are glowing cyan. The dial-up screech is a banshee. And the Y2K Bug? It never died. It evolved.

This is Digital Awakening.

From the first modem handshake of Klutch & Brain’s “Waybacks Intro” to the final spinning sugar rush of Sneaker Pimps, every beat is a timestamp. Every drop is a countdown. Faithless keeps you awake. Da Hool drags you to the parade. Brainbug crawls out of the speakers with fangs bared. And when ATB hits 9pm, you’ll swear the walls are breathing in binary.

Two INTER-MISSIONS break the spell just long enough to remind you: this is real. Shep’s voice cracks like a corrupted file. GODD’s whisper loops like a haunted .wav.

This isn’t nostalgia.

This is survival rave.

Plug in.

Boot up.

And if your screen starts to crawl…

don’t look away.

The bug remembers you.

From Trident to Tomorrow: The Heartbeat of ΙΑΣΩΝ

by Jason Brain

In March 2017, I shared The Trident 🔱 Trilogy, my final commercial dance music mixes as DJ Jason Brain, born from a broken heart after a trip to Cuba. That moment marked a turning point, where I embraced my alias ΙΑΣΩΝ—Greek for Jason, tied to Saint Jason—and dove into the underground world of Psytrance, techno, and melodic house. Eight years later, I’m still creating from the heart, with a story rooted in my hometown of Port Perry and Blackstock, thriving in Durham Region, and now blooming in Haliburton.

As ΙΑΣΩΝ, I’ve produced tracks and remixes, including two soulful melodic house DJ mixes, and I’m thrilled to announce a Progressive Psytrance song dropping soon—a new wave of heart-centric music. My journey began in Durham Region, where I built my legend as a DJ, rocking The Ultimate Summer Bash in Port Perry for three years running as the official DJ, filling the air with energy and nostalgia. Though the event didn’t happen this year, those nights under the stars remain unforgettable.

Since moving north, Durham Region has kept calling me back for bookings, but I’ve also found a new home in Haliburton. This season, I started taking wedding bookings here, celebrating love with couples under twinkling lights and event tents, even through the challenges of the COVID pandemic. I’m especially proud to have been the Haliburton High School Prom DJ for the past three years, bringing joy to students as they mark their milestones. With one wedding booking in two weeks and an open calendar beyond, I’m ready for whatever comes next.

As ΙΑΣΩΝ, I’ve also dipped into the rave scene, providing projection mapping as video support for international DJs. Sharing the stage, blending visuals with beats, has been a thrilling evolution, pushing my creativity into new dimensions. Yet, as Jason Brain, I stay grounded, DJing weddings in Haliburton and taking bookings in Durham Region, where my legend lives on.

If the music of ΙΑΣΩΝ takes me to new places, I’ll travel light, letting the beats guide me without the weight of a full sound setup. For now, I’m staying the course in Haliburton, creating and celebrating love through music. The Trident 🔱 was a spark, and the fire still burns. Join me for my upcoming Progressive Psytrance release and let’s keep the rhythm alive. Download, dance, and resonate together. 🌊❤️

Follow me on X for updates, and keep the volume up!

Creating a 2025 R3tarded Valerie Remix Remix: A Tribute to Eric Prydz and Steve Winwood

by Jason Brain

Hey everyone, it’s Jason (ΙΑΣΩΝ) here, and I’m sharing the journey behind my latest project—a 9-minute remix/mashup of Valerie by Eric Prydz and Steve Winwood. You can check it out here. This track is a labor of love, blending the iconic sounds of both artists into something fresh, vibrant, and true to their original essence. As someone who lives for dance, Zumba, and high-energy workout tracks (123 bpm, anyone?), this remix is my way of overflowing joy through music, as I always aim to do.

The Vision

Inspired by the vibrant energy of Eric Prydz’s original and the soulful depth of Steve Winwood’s Valerie, I wanted to create a remix that bridges their worlds. At 123 bpm and in the key of A—perfect for Zumba or a high-energy workout—this track is my way of reflecting joy and sharing it with you, as I often say: “Fill yourself with joy and overflow to others.”

The Creation Process

This remix was a deep dive into sound design and layering:

  • Source Material: I worked with Prydz’s iconic Call On Me and Winwood’s original Valerie, pulling elements from both to build a cohesive mix.

  • Acapella Extraction: Using my tools, I isolated Winwood’s vocals, placing them strategically to complement the beat.

  • Synth Work: I reimagined the Valerie synths, blending them with Prydz’s style for a fresh yet respectful tribute.

  • Structure: The 9-minute runtime allowed me to craft a dynamic flow, ensuring every lyric and beat lands perfectly.

Why This Remix?

This isn’t just a remix—it’s a celebration of music’s ability to connect. The retro vibes of the album art (inspired by the original Call On Me aesthetic) tie into the nostalgic yet forward-looking sound. Whether you’re dancing in Haliburton, ON, or anywhere else, I hope this track gets you moving!

Get Involved

Listen above, share your thoughts, and let’s keep the vibe going. Hit me up if you’re local, and let’s dance it out!

Cheers,
Jason (ΙΑΣΩΝ)

The Blue Room Coboconk: A Journey of Music and Memories 🎸

by Jason Brain

For the past few months, I took a break from my usual work to help my friend Kingsley establish The Blue Room Coboconk 🔗, a vibrant new event space and artist management company in Coboconk, Ontario. It’s been a wild ride, filled with music, community, and over 10 successful events that brought the Kawartha Lakes region to life for 'Summer 2025'. 🌟 But like the Littlest Hobo from that classic ‘80s Canadian TV show, my time here is done, and I’m ready to keep movin’ on. 🚶‍♂️

A Season of Events 🎤

Since March 2025, I’ve been all-in, helping organize and promote events that brought incredible energy to Coboconk. From the Bobcaygeon Bike Fest on June 7, where we managed live music, bands, and DJs for a roaring crowd, to a Space Jam-themed party during the Victoria Day weekend that turned The Blue Room into a Galactic Groove rave-disco, the vibes were electric. ⚡ Other highlights included shows at The Blue Room and The Pattie House, where local and visiting artists filled the stages with unforgettable performances. Special thanks to Christina Abbott for her eye-catching flyer designs that gave each event its own flair. ✨

My Role and Reflections 💻

Working with Kingsley’s team, I helped manage logistics, promote artists, and even tackled the web development and kept the events page running smoothly. From coordinating Artists and Events to ensuring the website was ready and up-to-date, it was a labor of love. The Blue Room became a hub for music and community, and I’m proud to have been part of its early days. But, like the Littlest Hobo, I’m not one to stay in one place too long—there’s always a new adventure calling. 🌄

Moving On 🐾

As I wrap up my time with The Blue Room, I’m grateful for the experiences, the music, and the people who made it all possible. Kingsley and his team are set to keep the good vibes going, and I know Coboconk will continue to shine as a destination for live music and events. For me, it’s time to hit the road—figuratively and maybe literally—to chase new projects and passions. If you want to book an artist or plan an event, check out The Blue Room Coboconk and keep the music alive! 🎉

Celebrating Canada Day Weekend with Armando at El Patio in Bobcaygeon

by Jason Brain

This Canada Day weekend was one for the books, spent in the picturesque town of Bobcaygeon, Ontario. What made it truly unforgettable was the electrifying performance by none other than the sensational singer, Armando , at the cozy El Patio venue.

Armando took the stage amidst cheers and applause, and from the first note, he had the crowd mesmerized. Known for his soulful melodies and powerful lyrics, he treated us to a medley of his greatest hits including the uplifting anthem "Rise Up" and the infectious "Rodeo". Each song resonated deeply, bringing together fans of all ages under the starlit summer sky.

Armando even sang Sympony for us!

DJ Antoine feat. Kidmyn, Armando & Jimmi The Dealer – Symphony

One of the highlights of the night was when Armando unveiled his latest creation, "4th of July". The song captured the essence of celebration and freedom, perfectly timed for the festive weekend. Its catchy beats and poignant lyrics had everyone singing along, creating an atmosphere of unity and joy.

El Patio itself provided the ideal setting for such an intimate yet energetic performance. Nestled in the heart of Bobcaygeon, the venue’s warm ambiance and friendly staff complemented Armando’s electrifying presence on stage, making it a night to remember.

As the music echoed through the night and the crowd danced under the canopy of stars, it became clear that this Canada Day weekend with Armando at El Patio was more than just a concert. It was a celebration of music, community, and the spirit of summer. Whether you were a longtime fan or a newcomer to his music, the experience left an indelible mark, reminding us of the power of live music to uplift, inspire, and unite.

Thank you to all my friends who joined me in Bobcaygeon especially those that were ending your week long holidays on a houseboat – your presence made the night even more memorable!

As I reflect on those magical moments, I can’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a special event. Thank you, Armando, for sharing your talent with us and making this Canada Day weekend one we will cherish forever.

Broke the glass on my camera screen, so it's been a challenge to provide any footage at this time :)

Thank you to Everyone for a great experience!
